With lot of movements and activities to his credit, Pavan K. Varma is an established name as a writer of depth and insight. His writings span various genres and each has outrun the success of the other.

Literary Movements

  • Pavan K. Varma has been the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the prestigious Commonwealth Writers’ Prize held in New Delhi for the first time in April 2000.
  • Instituted the prestigious annual Nehru Memorial Lecture at the Nehru Centre in London.
  • Publisher of India Perspectives, a journal published by the Publicity Division of the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • Publisher of Indian Horizons, an international quarterly on art and culture published by the Indian Council of Cultural relations, New Delhi.
  • Founder-Member of Mountain Echoes, an annual Literary Festival held in Thimpu Bhutan, to showcase the literatures of Bhutan and India and the manifold sharings between them and to promote greater exchange between the two countries.
  • Founder-Trustee of the Benaras Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav.
  • Special Invitee and Panelist-Speaker at the Edinburgh Literary Festival in 2005.
  • Special Invitee and Panelist-Speaker every year at the Jaipur Literary Festival since its inception.
  • Special Invitee and Panelist-Speaker at the Thiruvananthapuram Literary Festival.

  • Convenor of the Ghalib Memorial Trust that is working to restore Ghalib’s haveli to its former glory.
  • Convenor of the India-Bhutan Seminar on Gross National Happiness.
